CHRYSLER, GETRAG URGED TO HELP TIPTON: Five members of Indiana’s congressional delegation have asked officials with Chrysler and Getrag to work with local officials and contractors to attract a new project to Tipton County (de la Bastide, Kokomo Tribune). Last year, Chrysler and Getrag Transmission LLC announced plans to construct a $530 million transmission plant in Tipton County. The plant would have employed 1,200 people. That agreement was terminated in a financing dispute currently pending in a Michigan court. Getrag filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and canceled the project in November. Indiana contractors are still owed more than $44 million for work performed at the Getrag transmission plant at the intersection of Ind. 28 and U.S. 31. Members of the state’s congressional delegation who signed the letter include Rep. Dan Burton, R-5th District; Rep. Joe Donnelly, D-2nd District; Rep. Andre Carson, D-7th District; Rep. Peter Visclosky, D-1st District; and Rep. Brad Ellsworth, D-8th District. Burton’s spokesman, John Donnelly, said the entire Indiana congressional delegation was invited to sign the letter. Four members did not, including Rep. Mark Souder, R-3rd District; Rep. Steve Buyer, R-4th District; Rep. Mike Pence, R-6th District; and Rep. Baron Hill, D-9th District. “The congressman is watching this situation closely,” John Donnelly said. “This letter and the congressman might do more next week.”
